William Robert Hawes of Caro, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 surrounded by his family. Bill was born July 25, 1949 in Saginaw, the son of the late William and Janet (Emery) Hawes. He attended Bridgeport high school and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army. Bill worked at Tuffy Muffler Service Center as a mechanic and manager for over twenty years, retiring in 1997. In 1990, Bill reconnected with the former Laura Carpenter. On November 9, 2018, Bill and Laura were united in marriage. Together they enjoyed traveling, especially to Israel and camping at Crystal Lake. Bill loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He belonged to the Men's Poker Club and would drive 100 miles just to play. Bill was a very religious man and never missed his Bible Study Group in Deford. One of Bill's favorite pastimes was watching the sunsets at his home. He was funny, caring, compassionate, and most of all, loving. Bill never met a stranger and would take the shirt off his back for anyone. He loved his family and will be missed for generations to come. Bill leaves to cherish his memory his soulmate and wife of thirty two years, Laura; he was the proudest father of Billy, Tammy (Dan), Toni, Roxanne, and Amanda; a wonderful grandfather to fifteen grandchildren; the best brother to Kathy (Harold), Frank (Mary Beth), Cherie (David), Mavis, Paul (Vicky), and Keith (Mary Kay); brother-in-law, Arland; he also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Christy. In keeping with the wishes of Bill, cremation has taken place and a family gathering is being planned for a later date.
