William Lawrence Hessell of Pigeon, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Courtney Manor Nursing & Rehab in Bad Axe. He was born September 8, 1934 in Detroit the son of the late Larry and Evelyn Hessell. Bill graduated from Catholic Central High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army. Upon returning, he continued his education at Michigan State University, studying engineering, art, and law.
On February 27, 1960, Bill married the former, Margaret Prindle at the Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit. Their marriage was blessed with over sixty-five years and countless memories. Bill was a member of the American Legion, The Eagles, the Knights of Columbus, and a dedicated parishioner of St. Roch Catholic Church. He worked as a foreman at General Motors, retiring as a supervisor after thirty years. Bill loved to play cards, especially Euchre, enjoyed trips to the casino, playing the horses at Hazel Park, and had all the luck when it came to scratch-offs. His warm, loving, and giving nature will be missed dearly.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Margaret; grandchildren, Angela Hessell and Martin Hessell II; great-grandson, AJ Ramirez; sister, Karen (Greg) Kelly; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Sherry Hessell and brothers, Don Hessell and Robert “Bobby” Hessell.
Bill’s Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. Rev. George Amos will officiate with the burial following at St. Roch Cemetery. Bill’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday at church from 10:00am until the time of mass.
