William D. Putnam

William D. Putnam, a lifelong resident of Caro, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of fifty-six. Bill was born September 1, 1962 in Caro, the son of the late David W. & Betty Jane (Wilber) Putnam. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1980 and took a position at Caro Plastics shortly after. He was later employed with Detroit Edison on their line clearance team where Bill became a journeyman tree trimmer. While with Detroit Edison, he attended Delta College in Saginaw, and graduated with an associate degree in criminal justice. Following his graduation, Bill began a twenty-four year career in corrections, first with Macomb Correctional Facility, then Camp Tuscola, St. Louis Correctional Facility, Tuscola Residential Reentry Program, and finally Saginaw Correctional Facility, retiring earlier this year. He was united in marriage with his longtime partner, the former Jeanette Kloc on May 17, 2005 in Caro. Bill will be best remembered as a fun and caring husband, father and grandfather. The safety and happiness of his family always came first, followed by a few well-planned pranks. Bill had a passion for the outdoors, and could often be found hunting, fishing and golfing. He was known for pouring his heart and soul into whatever he did and was always willing to sacrifice himself for others. This compassion even extended to strangers and he was recognized for heroism with two life-saving awards. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Putnam of Caro; four children and their spouses, Jessica & Gary Goss of Plato, Missouri, Amanda Ertman of Ansbach, Germany, Benjamin & Jordan Ertman of Silverwood, Thomas & Shayna O'Connor of Caro; eight grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Alaina Smith, William Moery, Jade Michael, Kimberly Michael, Isabelle Ertman, Caleb Ertman, Lillian O'Connor; five siblings and their spouses, Cheri & David Lich of Kingston, Robert & Barbara Fox of Detroit, Teri Ward of Waterford, Greg & Jennette Putnam of Caro, Scott & Heidi Putnam of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Fr. Adam Maher officiating.
