On Friday, July 22, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., a Memorial will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in honor of what would have been his 100th birthday. There will be refreshments and cake. Family, friends, and acquaintances are all invited to help celebrate Bill's life and legacy. William “Bill” Roy Rodd of Caro, age 99, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 28, 2022. Bill was born July 22, 1922 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He was the first child of Roy and Nora (McIsaac) Rodd. His siblings include, John Henry Rodd of Toronto, Ontario, deceased, Marion Rodd (Telling) of Tecumseh, Ontario, deceased, and Robert Gardiner Rodd of Guelph, Ontario. Bill attended Sandwich Collegiate and Assumption High School in Windsor. In 1942, he joined the Canadian Army and served in the European campaign as an artillery signaler. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and continued his education by graduating from Assumption University in 1949 with a B.A. Bill then spent one year at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He found work in Detroit with the AAA claim department in 1951. Bill was transferred to Port Huron and then Caro in 1953. It was while working he met his future wife, Idena Faust, who was his secretary. Idena and Bill married in September 1954. Bill later worked as a claim adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance in the thumb area and finally as manager of the Saginaw office until 1970. He teamed up with his brother-in-law, Elmer Faust, and developed Northwood Heights Subdivision in Caro. It became an integral part of Caro and today boasts over 100 homes. Idena and Bill loved to travel. They decided to make travel a business and in 1968 they opened Thumb Travel Agency in Caro. Together, they have spent over fifty years helping people make their dream trips a reality. Bill and Idena traveled most of the world together. On September 25, 2021, Bill and Idena celebrated their sixty seventh wedding anniversary. They have been long time members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. Bill was very active with the Lions Club in Caro and spent a lot of time with them. He was an avid reader, a coin collector, photographer, and model train enthusiast. Bill loved building his H.O. train system that took up a large part of his basement. Bill is survived by his wife, Idena; sisters-in-law, OnnaLee Miklovic of Caro, Dorothy Faust of Caro, and Jane Rodd of Toronto; one brother, Robert Rodd and wife, Louise of Guelph, Ontario; brother-in-law, Roy Wightman of Caro; and several nieces and nephews in Ontario and Michigan. A private funeral will be held for Bill at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with burial to follow at Elkland Township Cemetery. On July 22, 2022, Bills family will hold a Memorial at St. Paul Lutheran Church in honor of what would have been his 100th birthday.
