William A. Stone

William A. Stone of Caro, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Grandhaven Living Center in Lansing. Bill was born May 18, 1924 in Fairgrove, the son of the late Cecil and Mary (Shannon) Stone and his step-mother, Irene Stone. He was a 1941 graduate of Caro High School and served in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Bill was united in marriage with Helen (Fotenakes) Moore October 25, 1947 in Watrousville and celebrated forty-seven years of marriage with her before her death on December 9, 1994. He was later married to Evelyn "Evie" Sheardy on June 5, 1998 in Caro, and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2008. Bill was employed at the Caro Regional Center in the laundry for over twenty years, retiring in 1989. He loved farming and had a small crop farm for many years. Bill was a trustee on the Caro School Board and was fortunate to be able to hand all his children their diplomas when they graduated. He was a member of Caro VFW Post 4164 and Caro American Legion Post #7. He was a prior member of Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM, Watrousville United Methodist Church, where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, and was most recently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. Bill is survived by four children, Susan E. Stone of Caro, Sara E. Stone of Indianapolis, Indiana, Robert W. Stone of Boston, Massachusetts, Shawne E. Stone of Lansing; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Bill also enjoyed spending time with Evie's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, step-mother and wives, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jacqueline Fessler and Bonnie Fox. In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
