William J. Witowski Jr., age 76, of Caseville, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at home while under hospice care.
Bill was born January 9, 1933 in Detroit to the late William J. Sr. and Stella (Markiewicz) Witowski. He graduated from Detroit Chadsey High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force, playing in the Air Force Band. On September 20, 1952 he married Rose Marie Kovach of Detroit in Angola, Indiana.
Bill was the former owner of the Castaways Banquet Hall in Riverview, retiring in 1987. He and Rose moved permanently to Caseville in 2002. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, the Caseville Eagles #3690, the Saline American Legion and a former member of the Federation of Musicians and Ann Arbor Elks. Bill loved politics, and once ran for the Michigan Senate in 1982 for the TISCH party. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and playing drums.
Surviving are his wife Rose Marie; children Denise (James) Shackelford of Tecumseh, Delaine (Larry) Helton of Ypsilanti, William J. III (Patricia) of Spring Lake, Dawn (Mark) Hanna of Onsted, and Daralyn Makowski of Spring Lake; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and brothers Ronald (Geri) of Plymouth and Gerald (Deborah) of Bellaire.
A memorial mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Yaroch Presiding. Military honors will be presented by the Caseville American Legion.
Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund.
