Willis "Bill" Mcqueen

Willis “Bill” McQueen of Caro, age 82, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at McLaren – Bay Region in Bay City. Bill was born August 26, 1942 in Lansing, the son of the late Erwin and Laurine (Clark) McQueen. On June 30, 1962, Bill married the love of his life, Linda Clements, in Holt, Michigan. Together, they shared over sixty-two wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Bill proudly served his community as a Michigan State Police Trooper for more than thirty-two years, retiring as a sergeant. After his retirement, he pursued one of his favorite pastimes, golf, and turned it into a second career. He worked for Vassar Country Club, Willow Springs Golf and Country Club in Millington, and The Woodlands Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he enjoyed many winters away from Michigan’s bitterly cold weather, which interfered with his beloved golf season.

In addition to golf, Bill had a passion for woodworking. He spent countless hours in his workshop crafting furniture and birdhouses. His meticulous care extended to his yard, which he tended to with pride. It was well-known that Bill had a sweet tooth, and whether it was desserts or ice cream, he always made room for a treat.

A man of deep faith, Bill was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro where he served for many years as an elder. Above all else, he treasured time with his family. Whether celebrating holidays, sharing meals, or enjoying quiet afternoons together, Bill found his greatest joy in the love and connection of those closest to him. His strength, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his loving wife, Linda McQueen; two children and their spouses, Cathy & Tim Slattery and Robert & Erika McQueen; grandchildren, Travis Schriber, Ryan & Brooke Schriber, & Delaney McQueen; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Hannah, Tessa, Caden, and Luke; sister, Marilyn Akright; brother, Erwin McQueen, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three sisters, Gloria Jean, Geraldine, and Sue.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating.
