Wilma Darlene Thompson of Caro, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Wilma was born July 12, 1938 in Corbin, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Genina and Mary (Cupp) Griffith. In 1967, Wilma married Arthur L. Thompson. Their marriage was blessed with nearly thirty years, six children, and countless memories. Sadly, Arthur preceded Wilma in death on June 12, 1996. Wilma was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed canning and gardening. She was a member of the Caro Assembly of God and taught Sunday school there. Wilma was a talented crocheter and loved to write poetry, creating many cherished treasures. Among the many joys that filled her heart, Wilma found great happiness in the company of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Their laughter was music to her ears, and she delighted in the simple pleasures of spending time with them. Whether it was teaching them the art of crochet or sharing tales of days gone by, Wilma reveled in the special bond she shared with each grandchild. She was known for her quiet demeanor but once you got to know her, she opened right up and you could always count on a story from her past. Wilma will be missed dearly and her memory will be cherished for years to come.
Wilma leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Herman & Maryann Thompson, Keith & Debra Burns, Darla Forton, Stephen Burns, Tammy & Brook Birkenmeier, and Arthur & Tina Thompson; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Schultz and Glennis Griffith; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Debra Maharg and brothers, Warren and Daniel Griffith.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Caro Assembly of God Church. Rev. Dave Dietzel will officiate with burial following at North Grove Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of her 1:00 p.m. service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Mission Fund at Caro Assembly of God or the wishes of family, c/o Darla Forton, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, Michigan, 48723.
