Wilmer R. Nimtz

Wilmer R. Nimtz, age 93, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Wilmer was born December 29, 1919 in Sebewaing to the late Richard and Katherine (Stueck) Nimtz. He served as a Private First Class in the US Army during WWII, stationed in Alaska. Wilmer worked for the Michigan Sugar Company as a sugar boiler for 40 years and was also a self employed farmer. He married Helen Vollmer on January 5, 1957. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2011, after 54 years of loving marriage. He was an active member at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh.

Other than working on the farm, Wilmer enjoyed ice fishing, playing euchre, watching the Detroit Tigers, making horseradish, growing roses, and freely giving his garden vegetables and fruit to his family and friends. Wilmer most loved spending time with Helen and the family.

Wilmer was the loving father of: Peggy (Duane) Scharich, Lori (Rocky) Joles, Thomas (Michelle) Nimtz, Michael (Laura) Nimtz, and the late Brenda Houthoofd. He was the proud grandfather of: Heather, Jonathan, Melissa, Matthew, Caleb, Mark, Emily, Christina, Angela, Jacob, Sarah, Camden and Colt. He was the dearest great grandfather of: Landon, Nathan, Mason and Grace. He is survived by his brother, Walter (Vernita) Nimtz. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Art Nimtz, Richard Nimtz, Jr., Mildred Kain and Lucille Elbing. Wilmer is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 1-9 pm with a "Tribute to Our Dad" at 7 pm.

The funeral service will be Monday, September 2, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. Visitation will be at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am, officiating Rev. Michael L. Teuscher, Pastor.

Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery-Kilmanagh in Sebewaing with the Sebewaing American Legion and VFW Post performing a short honorable service for their loyal member.

Memorial donations may be given to St. John Lutheran Church-Kilmanagh or Bay Shore Camp.
